Quality Training That Makes the Difference

   Impact Weapons

   The stick is one of the oldest and most effective weapons in man's arsenal. Seemingly innocuous items can become devastating personal weapons that can be used to quickly disable an attacker. Bypassing the dojo-style forms, this intensive two-day course cuts straight to the meat of stick fighting.

This course focuses on techniques for the yawara (Surefire light, closed folding knife), short stick (flashlight) and hanbo (walking stick). The emphasis of this weapons program is to be able to pick up a similar weapon and adapt it in a self-preservation moment. The student will be introduced to the sparring aspects of stick fighting in progressions. This is the only way that one can test and measure the extent of their familiarization with the stick.

The following topics will be covered in an interactive, hands-on format:

  * Fighting footwork,
  * Gripping the stick,
  * Distance and interval,
  * Proper striking techniques,
  * Fundamental angles of attack,
  * Fighting combinations,
  * Improvised weapons,
  * Defenses against punches and kicks,
  * Defenses against grabs and chokes,
  * Stick retention techniques,
  * Single and double hand blocking techniques,
  * Target areas and pressure points of the body,
  * Control techniques,
  * Defenses against knife attacks,
  * Defenses against stick attacks,
  * Combat and conditioning drills,
  * Misconceptions about impact weapons,
  * Mindset and focus,
  * Sparring against single and multiple opponents, and
  * Legal issues.

Practice sticks will be provided. Eye protection recommended. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
